ZAGREB, March 1 (Hina) - The association "Bedem ljubavi" (Mothers
for Peace) has filed a civil action against the president of the Croatian
Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (HHO), Zarko Puhovski, for his statement
that at the beginning of the war in Croatia, Croatian mothers worked against
peace because they took their sons out of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) only
to send them to the Croatian army. The controversial statement,
made in early February at an international conference on establishing the truth
on war conflicts and war crimes, is entirely contrary to the association's
goals and principles, as well as to the Croatian Parliament's Declaration on
the Homeland War, representatives of the association told the press on
Thursday.
The civil action against Puhovski was also supported by several other
Homeland War women's organisations and the Zagreb association of disabled war
veterans.
