WASHINGTON, Feb 26 (Hina) - Commenting Monday's ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), that the 1995 massacre of some 8,000 Bosnian Muslims at Srebrenica constituted genocide, but that Serbia was not responsible for the
mass killings, the US State Department on Monday called on all parties to use the closure of this 14-year court process to face the past and turn to issues important to all peoples in the region.
WASHINGTON, Feb 26 (Hina) - Commenting Monday's ruling of the
International Court of Justice (ICJ), that the 1995 massacre of some 8,000
Bosnian Muslims at Srebrenica constituted genocide, but that Serbia was not
responsible for the mass killings, the US State Department on Monday called on
all parties to use the closure of this 14-year court process to face the past
and turn to issues important to all peoples in the region. Stressing
that the ruling adopted today was still being discussed, a State Department
official said that turning to more important issues was critical for
reconciliation and reconstruction.
The US expect the authorities in Belgrade to respect Serbia's
international obligations, face the past and lead Serbia toward a European
future, the state Department official said.
