ZAGREB, Feb 22 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks received Polish Foreign Minister Anna Fotyga on Thursday during her official visit to Croatia, Seks's office said in a statement.

Seks said he was pleased with the development of bilateral relations and thanked Poland for the political and technical support to Croatia on its path to full membership of the European Union and NATO, which was also manifested in good parliamentary cooperation.

A delegation of the Polish Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee visited the Croatian Parliament in December 2006, and members of the European integration committees of the two parliaments are due to meet in Zagreb in May. The Croatian Parliament's Croatian-Polish Friendship Group is scheduled to visit Poland in March.

Fotyga expressed hope that Croatia would join the European Union in 2009 according to its wishes, noting that Croatia should not become hostage to the ongoing debates on the EU Constitution.

Although it is not always easy for the 27 member states to reach a consensus, the European Union offers numerous possibilities, she said.

The Polish minister said that Croatia's significance would grow with its admission to the EU and NATO.
