The Croatian partner in the project is the national park Risnjak, with a project worth 100,000 euros.
The PANet 2010 project is aimed at establishing a network of protected areas in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, drawing up guidelines and suggestions for the management of those areas, and making a unified GIS data base with maps and information on all protected areas.
Ninety percent of funds needed for the Croatian project will be ensured by the European Union and ten percent by Croatia. The project is expected to be completed by March 2008.
The project PANet 2010 was approved last year by the European Commission and is headed by the Austrian Office for Planning and Protection of the Nature. It is financed within the Program for the Neighbourhood which covers Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia.
The purpose of the project PANet 2010 is to facilitate the implementation of the European program "Natura 2000" and the strategy of development of undeveloped areas as well as to draw attention to the need to declare protected areas and keep them protected.
