Dr Aleksandar Vcev, head of the medical team that has been monitoring Glavas's health since December 2 last year when he was transferred from a prison hospital in Zagreb to Osijek, told reporters that a decision on Glavas's fitness to participate in court proceedings would mainly depend on a report by the psychiatrist, Dr Vera Folnegovic Smalc, which she was to present to Zagreb County Court investigating judge Zdenko Posavec.
Dr Vcev said that Glavas's health had improved and that he was now taking both liquid and solid foods. The problem, he added, was neurological damage caused by a long-lasting hunger strike, as shown by x-rays of the head and the cervical spine.
The doctor said neurological recovery would take between three and six months.
Osijek County Court investigating judge Mario Kovac will request a report from the medical experts in mid-February, court spokesman Miroslav Rozac said.
The Garage Case concerns the alleged torture and murder of Serb civilians in Osijek in 1991.
