Vekaric was quoted in the Wednesday issue of the Belgrade-based Vecernje Novosti daily as saying that Norwegian courts had so far refused to extradite Sireta, but that it was "very likely" that they would make a precedent-setting decision since Norway has no laws regulating war crimes.
A three-member delegation of the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor's Office travels to Oslo this week to present arguments for Sireta's extradition to Serbia. In this context Vekaric cited a case of Serb paramilitaries who had been tried and convicted by the War Crimes Court in Belgrade for their role in the Ovcara massacre and technical facilities available in the court.
Sireta is also wanted by Croatia because he is a Croatian national and has been sentenced by a Croatian court to 12 years in prison.
