"Under Secretary Burns and Schwarz-Schilling discussed the need for the new Bosnian government to set aside the divisive nationalist rhetoric that characterised the election period and to move rapidly on the reforms needed for the benefit of all Bosnians, particularly police and constitutional reform," the State Department said in a press release.
They discussed the importance of undertaking a thorough review of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region in advance of the February decision by the Peace Implementation Council Steering Board on the future of the Office of the High Representative, the press release said.
Burns expressed his deep appreciation for the dedication Schwarz-Schilling had shown to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The United States looks forward to continuing to collaborate closely with and to supporting him during the remainder of his tenure, the statement said.
Schwarz-Schilling visited the United States as part of his tour of the Peace Implementation Council member countries.
