ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) - A regular annual meeting of the Croatian Bishops' Conference (HBK) and the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia-Herzegovina (BK BiH), that focused on issues of Croatian believers abroad, was held in Zagreb on Monday.

The presidents of the two Bishops' Conferences stressed the meeting was important for the strengthening of the religious and national ties between Croats living in the two countries.

The president of the Croatian Bishops' Conference, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, said that the Church in Bosnia-Herzegovina had faced persecution at the end of the 20th century, read a statement issued after yesterday's meeting.

Bosnian Cardinal Vinko Puljic said that the support of the Croatian Bishops' Conference to the Catholic Church in Bosnia-Herzegovina helped believers in Bosnia find solutions for the Church and the people.

The bishops also talked about the assistance of the Catholic Church in Croatia to the Catholic Church in Bosnia which will in the future go through the Croatian and Bosnian Caritas offices.

Bosnian bishops pointed to the dramatic situation in Bosnia, notably concerning the survival and existential problems of the Croat people, the statement said.

The meeting focused on the state of Catholic missions in neighbouring Slovenia.

The bishops addressed the issue of preserving the religious and national identity of Croats and reverend Ante Kutlesa informed the bishops of the remodelled area for Mass celebration in Bleiburg.

The meeting was chaired by Cardinal Bozanic and Cardinal Puljic.
