Mario Kovac has given permission for Mirko Sivic, one of the seven persons
indicted for murdering Serb civilians by the Drava river in Osijek in the early
1990s, to be transferred to a prison hospital in Zagreb after his health
deteriorated as a result of his hunger strike and refusal to receive therapy,
the court said on Monday. The Osijek County Court said in a
statement that approval had been given following an application filed by the
Osijek prison authorities, who said that Sivic had resumed a hunger strike on
December 18 and that he had stopped taking therapy, as a result of which his
health substantially deteriorated on January 6.
Sivic initially started a hunger strike on November 20 and stopped it
on December 12, when he started taking prison food and medication.
