HDSSB accuses Osijek County Court of stalling decision in Glavas case

OSIJEK, Dec 16 (Hina) - The president of the Croatian Democratic League of Slavonija and Baranja (HDSSB), Kresimir Bubalo, and his deputy, Dr. Vladimir Sisljagic, held a press conference in the eastern city of Osijek on Saturday at which they accused the Osijek County Court of stalling a decision on the request by the defence team representing member of Parliament Branimir Glavas to suspend the investigation into the so-called Sellotape case.

The defence team filed the request two weeks ago, saying they were seeking suspension of the investigation on the same grounds on which the Zagreb County Court had suspended its investigation against their client in the so-called Garage case.

The Zagreb court had suspended the proceedings against Glavas on account of his deteriorated health caused by a 37-day hunger strike.

Last Monday, Osijek County Court investigating judge Mario Kovac heard medical expert witnesses, who declared Glavas unfit to follow court proceedings.

Bubalo said it was unacceptable for Judge Kovac to continue the investigation and hear witnesses, while Glavas was unable to attend court hearings.

Dr. Sisljagic said that Glavas's health had worsened after December 13, when he was served with a Zagreb County Court order overturning the decision to suspend the investigation and release Glavas from custody. He added that since that day Glavas had again been refusing to take food and medicines.

Asked by a report if that meant that Glavas has been on a hunger strike for the fourth day, Sisljagic said: "Judge for yourselves, but he obviously has. It's a hunger strike caused by a severe state of mind and body."
