PM: Serbia would be disappointed if EU decided on entry talks in Dec

Autor: half
BELGRADE, June 24 (Hina) - Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said on Monday Serbia would be very disappointed if the European Union discussed again whether to give it a date for membership negotiations only in December, given the different views on such a decision in Brussels and Berlin.

"The European Union has suggested a formulation in which the date of the first conference between the Serbian government and the EU should be in December at the latest, while in the Bundestag there are different draft documents saying that this should be in January. But it would be disappointing if the European Council in December again considered whether Serbia has met the requirements or not," Dacic told the press in Belgrade.

He recalled that talks on different levels had been under way in the EU for weeks, saying the most important approaches for Serbia were those of the EU, the European Commission, and Germany.

"Bearing in mind that those talks are within the EU and that we can't influence them, the only thing we can do is expect good news."

Serbian Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday night he expected the EU to give Serbia a date for the start of accession negotiations on June 28. He told B92 TV "there's no thing Serbia has promised that it hasn't met," so it expected to "get a concrete date" on June 28 because it deserved such a decision by the European Council. He said "such news would be written into Serbia's history."
