Improved demand from fashion and household textile companies is said to be behind the increases, going against the recent feeling that UK retailers were not sharing the profits from a recovery in the consumer and housing markets. Industry sources across all qualities reported a modest revival in enquiry after a third quarter that saw buyers moving to cover their requirements at the eleventh hour. "There's no major buying trend but orders are definitely coming through the pipeline now," one said. Prices for 66s and 64s Super and 64s Blended posted the biggest gain, all up six pence per lb to 444, 402 and 395 respectively. Traders said the market continues to be ruffled by erratic currency movements although UK suppliers have recovered their advantage against the other main European producers. 131109 MET dec 96
