Some business emerged as a result of this, involving cotton primarily for nearby shipments. Forward demand seems so far to have stayed subdued and it remains to be seen whether the mills will pursue a more active buying policy if the New York futures continue to rise. One recent feature of the market was that U.S. descriptions look more competitively priced in comparison with cotton from elsewhere, particularly in the better grades. 181052 MET nov 96
