Many players stood aside as prices lurched down to a low of $2,013 per tonne, down from Wednesday's kerb close of $2,060. But prices managed to bounce off the lows and end $27 easier at $2,033. Volume in the official copper ring was tiny as players remained jittery over reports that as much as half a million tonnes of copper may be hidden in Rotterdam bonded warehouses. "The market was a bit overbought and maybe needed a correction anyway, but I think it (reports of hidden stocks) has spooked the market. The turnover was 80-100 lots, that's nothing," one floor trader said. "No one really believes it and if there are no more developments after a few days the market will forget it," he added. During trading, the LME issued a statement saying that it had no control over stocks outside its warehouse system. The market expects a further draw in LME stocks on Friday after inventories fell by 4,225 tonnes on Tuesday, but traders offered varied estimates from 4,000 tonnes as high as 15,000 tonnes. "We've even seen good demand for warrants in European locations this morning," a trader said. Traders also noted supportive news that China expects to import 200,000 tonnes of copper this year, according to a senior official of a huge state-run metals firm. Trading in most of the other metals was lacklustre, with most following copper down, but rebounding off lows. Aluminium breached nearby support of $1,440 based on the 10-day moving average and $1,437 based on a trendline, but it held to a razor-thin $5 range between $1,431 and $1,436. It ended the morning with a $8.50 loss at $1,434. After nickel's poor close on Wednesday, which took it to the lowest in a week, prices headed down to test the $7,100 support level, which it last hit on November 4, but finished the kerb with a $30 loss at $7,140. If $7,100 is broken, the market was seen heading down to $7,000, last hit on October 2, chartists said. Fundamentals, however, may lend support to the market, analyst Martin Squires of broker Rudolf Wolff said. "With talk amongst the European stainless mills that stocks are moving to more acceptable levels, which has prompted further price hikes, we would favour buying into dips," he said. Lead slid through a couple layers of nearby support to a low of $726, finishing the morning at $728/30 after $738 on Wednesday. Tin only lost $10 to $5,980 and zinc edged down by $3 to $1,060. Alloy finished the day slightly weaker at $1,295/300 after $1,300/02. FRANCUSKA BURZA KOVINA - 14. studenoga 1996. BAKAR FFR/100 KG 1122 KOSITAR FFR/100 KG 3582 CINK EL.
