In what was mainly a continuation of yesterday's correction from seven-month lows, prices climbed toward the day's highs early on, boosted by mixed trade and speculative buying. But the rally ran out of steam after filling in a key chart gap at $1,378-1,382 basis March, and prices pulled back to a notch above unchanged. Top-producer Ivory Coast continued to sell at the highs, but other origins remained on the sidelines, dealers said. Steady rolling of December longs into the deferreds was the only other standout on the day, dealers said, as traders cleared their books ahead of first notice day. "The day was extremely quiet," noted one broker. "Traders were transferring their positions into March...but other than that, the market is really dead right now." Most-active March gained $5 a tonne, to finish at $1,374, having traded from $1,370 and $1,382. Spot December, which kicks off its delivery period on November 14, rose $3, to $!,330. Turnover was moderate, at an estimated 8,956 lots.
