In a firmer merino fleece market, 19 micron was one percent cheaper, 20/21m were up to 1.5 percent dearer, 22/23m were 0.5 percent dearer and 24/25/26m were 1.0 percent dearer. Merino skirtings were generally unchanged. In crossbreds, 27/30m were slightly dearer, 28/31m were 0.5 percent cheaper and 29m slightly cheaper. In cardings, lambs were slightly cheaper and locks and crutchings were generally unchanged. WI said local mills and Japanese and Chinese interests were principal buyers with support from Taiwan and most other sectors. Of 21,550 bales offered in both centres, 7.1 percent were passed in. Sales continue on Wednesday in Goulburn, Adelaide and Fremantle, with about 39,000 bales to be offered. _________________________________________________________________ Bradford - cijene vune - 14. listopada 1996. cijene u penijima/kg _________________________________________________________________ MERINO CROSSBRED 70s SUPER 505 58s SUPER 370 66s SUPER 446 58s BLENDED 348 64s SUPER 405 56s SUPER 358 64s BLENDED 403 54s CARDED 340 60s SUPER 379 50s CARDED 330 60s BLENDED 358 58s ENGLISH 275 56s ENGLISH 265 50s ENGLISH 261 Bradford wool market weak but optimistic BRADFORD, Oct 14 (Reuter) - Tops prices were largely unchanged in marginally firmer demand but developments in the retail sector brought renewed optimism to the Bradford wool market, trade sources said on Monday. Selected finer merinos saw slight price improvements and some topmakers had new orders to report, they added. "After a disappointing September and the sharp price fall for finer merinos in October which made buyers hold back, even (this) modest improvement is encouraging," one said. Last week's announcement of the 5.2 percent rise in August-September retail clothing prices (the sharpest since 1947) appeared to have little immediate impact on the market as only a limited improvement in buying interest was seen, trade sources said. Some said the pick-up in retail prices could simply indicate an end to the trend in discounting and the start of the new fashion season. But others were optimistic that this could still filter down to tops suppliers and bring a willingness from retailers to pay higher prices. Some sources said that with prices unseasonably weak, buyers could yet take the opportunity to buy forward. News that a major high street retailer was urging its contracted manufacturers to pay their own suppliers on time also brought cheer to a textile industry where late payment has been endemic, sources said. 161147 MET oct 96
