In a weak merino fleece market, 19 micron was 3.0 percent cheaper, while 20m was 2.5 percent cheaper and 21/23/24/25/26m were up to one percent cheaper. Merino skirtings were 1.0 percent cheaper. In crossbreds, 27/28m were unchanged while 29m was slightly dearer. In cardings, lambs were 2.0 percent cheaper and locks were 1.0 percent cheaper. Crutchings were up to 1.0 percent cheaper. WI said most interest came from Japan and Western Europe with support from most other sectors. Of 20,710 bales offered 14.2 percent were passed in. Most prices were steady to easier with English all down six pence per kg. Market sources attributed the lack of activity to the schedule of large offerings in key overseas markets beginning this week and set to keep prices low in buyers favour. Limited buying from Italy in the market for finer tops is subduing hopes of a merino-led recovery, they said.
