"If anyone were to make adjustments now they would be relatively minor because the industry is coming to a halt this weekend for the Christmas break," one said. No-one is changing their rates because "its a bit pointless", he added. The firmer pound indicates that under normal market conditions prices would ease but there has been little trade and minimal buying interest. Textile buyers expressed concern that the persistently robust pound would start to affect export demand and this was generally considered to be more of a threat to the industry than the prospect of further interest rate rises raised by the latest retail sales figures. Mill activity is set to resume on January 2. 231112 MET dec 96
