SIBENIK, Nov 7 (Hina) - The executive committee of the Association
of Displaced Persons today held a meeting in Sibenik where it
described the situation at Croatia's biggest refugee centre, the
Solaris hotel complex near Sibenik, as catastrophic after hearing a
report on living conditions.
The meeting said displaced people had marked All Saints' Day
and All Souls' Day with dignity.
The committee condemned statements from the President's Office
before All Saints' Day, saying that they gave false hopes to
displaced people wanting to visit cemeteries in demilitarized zones
and UNPAs.
The Association insisted that a list of villages in
demilitarized zones and UNPAs, where visits were ostensibly
possible, was little more than a Serb subterfuge because it
included villages without cemeteries (or Catholic cemeteries).
All Saints' Day illustrated UNPROFOR's impotence and the
presence of armed Serb rebels at certain cemeteries in the
demilitarized zone indicated that UNPROFOR was still not fulfilling
its task.
