ZADAR, Nov 1 (Hina) - Several hundred inhabitants of Zemunik and
displaced people from the Zadar-Knin area today laid wreaths and
lit candles at a UNPROFOR checkpoint in Zemunik.
In solidarity with the refugees, people from Zemunik did not
go to their cemetery - which is in the disengagement zone and
quite accessible - but preferred to lit their candles at the
Zemunik checkpoint.
Also present were members of Parliament Drago Krpina, Vice
Profaca and Zdenko Matesic.
Krpina told reporters that he considered "humiliating"
UNPROFOR's offer to refugees to visit only a few villages in the
occupied territory.
"Refugees should get rid of the idea that protests and
candles can achieve anything," Krpina said.
"The March 29 cease-fire agreement has not gotten us a jot
nearer the integration of the occupied areas. Judging from the
latest statements of Serb leaders, integration won't be possible
in the near future," he said.
Refugees from Baranja (UNPA East), who have not been allowed
to visit their cemeteries for four years, lit candles at the feet
of a cross on Bilje Road and in front of a UN checkpoint in
Nemetin.
Refugees from the Drnis area (UNPA South) similarly lit candles
at an UNPROFOR checkpoint in Pakovo Selo.
