UNPROFOR DISAPPOINTED IN SECTOR SOUTH

ZADAR, Nov 3 (Hina) - UN spokesman in Sector South, Alun Roberts, said today UNPROFOR was disappointed at Knin's attitude toward the planned visits to cemeteries in the UNPAs on All Saints' Day. He said the Serbs even banned visits to some villages in the disengagement zone, such as Pristeg, where Serb civilians staged a protest. When the protest was joined by 80 Serb soldiers, UNPROFOR decided to cancel the visit, Roberts said. According to Roberts, Sector South Commander Rastislav Kotil was also very disappointed at what he saw during a reconnaissance helicopter flight in the disengagement zone. He found both sides busy digging trenches on Mt Velebit and in the Medak area. Roberts said the Serbs left a small detachment in Goles (near Zemunik), in violation of the disengagement zone. Roberts said that Serb artillery pounded targets in western Bosnia, but could not confirm that they had support from Serb troops stationed in Croatia. But he said UNPROFOR had obtained several statements from elements of the Serb Lika Corps in Croatia, confirming its participation in the Kulen Vakuf fighting. Roberts said Knin authorities had not declared a state of war because of the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, but had carried out a partial mobilisation of draft-age men, under the pretext of guarding the border.
