SARAJEVO, Nov 4 (Hina) - UNPROFOR officials in Sarajevo today
blamed the Serbs for the latest attacks on civilian targets in
western Bosnia.
UN spokesman Thant Myint U said the Serbs yesterday launched a
"deliberate terrorist attack on civilian targets" in the Bihac safe
zone.
The Bosnian Serbs launched four SA-2 missiles, two of which
struck downtown Bihac.
One missile landed near a school, wounding a child and six
other civilians. The child's life is still in danger.
Another spokesman, Col. Tim Spricer, said the missile wrecked
one house and damaged 30 to 40 others. He pointed out that the
targets had no military importance whatsoever.
In the past 48 hours, the Serbs have fired in all seven SA-2
missiles at civilian targets in western Bosnia and Bugojno.
SA-2 missiles are part of an antiquated anti-aircraft system
dating from the sixties. Each missile contains 60 kg of explosive
and has a range of 50 km. They leave craters four metres wide.
UN officials said the rockets were fired from a vehicle.
Since both Karadzic's troops and Serb irregulars in Croatia
possess these weapons, it was difficult to precisely assign the
blame for these terrorist attacks, Spicer said.
He added that concrete actions might be undertaken after the
provenance of the missiles had been established.
Both the UNPROFOR command in Bosnia and that in Croatia
protested over these attacks.
Myint - Uh said it was not quite clear what steps should be
taken when safe areas in Bosnia came under attack from occupied
Croatian areas.
"The automatic clearance for air strikes does not apply in
this case," he said.
Un military observers said the Bosnian army was still fighting
Serb troops around Bosanska Krupa.
The Bosnian army has not made any significant territorial gain
in the past 24 hours.
