SARAJEVO, June 15 (Hina) - UNPROFOR spokeswoman in Bosnia Claire
Grimes confirmed at a press conference in Sarajevo on Wednesday
that UN chief-of-staff General Van Ball and his Bosnian army
counterpart General Enver Hadzihasanovic had met in Zenica on
Tuesday for talks on the cessation of hositilies. Grimes said that
talks were expected to resume on Thursday.
The Bosnian army press service said in a statement that the
Bosnian side had proposed at the talks that 22 liaision officers be
deployed and 63 observer posts be set up in the areas under its
control. According to the proposal, observer posts could be set up
only on a reciprocal basis, i.e. on the either side of the
confrontation line.
In a comment on the talks, Bosnian army commander Gen. Rasim
Delic said that the Bosnian side insisted that a cease-fire be
secured throughout Bosnia-Herzegovina, including the Bihac area in
the west. Gen. Delic demanded that a decision on the weapons
exclusion zone around the eastern town of Gorazde be fully
implemented and that refugees be allowed to return to their homes
on the right bank of the Drina river.
General Delic stressed that UNPROFOR's mission in western
Bosnia was all the more complicated as Bosnian army positions in
that region were attacked by both military forces loyal to
breakaway Moslem leader Fikret Abdic and rebel Serb forces from UN-
protected areas in Croatia. Following an agreement between the
Croatian government and rebel Serb authorities from Knin, Serb
paramilitary forces stepped up attacks on the Bihac area, Delic
said and added that Bosnian army troops successfully repelled all
the attacks.
