ZADAR, May 8 (Hina) - Several hundred displaced villagers from
Paljuv in the Zadar hinterland (southern Croatia), who had been
exiled from their village after the Serb occupation of the
village on 31 December 1991, visited today Paljuv. The village
was liberated by the Croatian army in January 1993. Since the
liberation Paljuv has been still subject to intensive attacks of
the Serb aggressors and that is why the displaced villagers, now
accommodated in settlements for refugees and displaced persons
in Zadar, Zaton and Novalja at the Adriatic coast, have not be
able to return to Paljuv.
They visited the village on Sunday, escorted by the Canadian
U.N. Protection Force (UNPROFOR) troops and the Croatian army
that had organized the visit.
Nine residential sections of Paljuv are now in the
disengagement area according to the Zagreb agreement. One of the
section, Barabe, is still under control of the Serb side. Almost
all houses in the village are completely destroyed.
