ZAGREB, March 10 (Hina) - Both sides have recently increased their
military presence in the disengagement zone in Sector South, an
UNPROFOR press conference in Zadar heard today.
Heavy weapons were being brought to the exclusion zone (within
a radius of 20 km on each side of the separation line) and UNMOs
enjoyed only a limited freedom of movement, spokesman Alun Roberts
said.
The weekly count of cease-fire violations rose from 34 in
early February to 55 in March.
Roberts was particularly concerned over the situation in
Otocac.
The Croatian army had dug trenches within the disengagement
zoneand was denying access to UNMOs, and the Serbs were bringing
howitzers.
SItuation was tense in the Maglaj-Budim area on the Croatian-
Bosnian border, where an exchange of fire was recorded between
Bosnian Croat forces and Knin Serb troops.
On top of it all, Serb military authorities in Benkovac
demanded that UNPROFOR announce the arrival of every patrol in
advance.
