U.N. BASE IN GORNJI VAKUF STILL UNDER BLOCKADE

Autor:
SARAJEVO, Feb 26 (Hina) - The UN headquarters for Sector South- West in the central Bosnian town of Gornji Vakuf today was still blocked by armed civilians, the UN in Sarajevo said. A UN spokesman said two check points had been set up at the entrance into the the UN base and UN personnel were denied movement in the area. The blockade began two days ago and Bosnian Moslem-led government officials read it as a spontaneous reaction to the presence of Serb liaison officers on the UN compound in Gornji Vakuf. Minister Hasan Muratovic said he had not been informed of the events by UN officials and even if he had had, he would have told them that the UN could not bring in Serb military officers without Bosnian government approval. Among the Serb liaison officers was Slavko Gusic whom the Bosnian government accused of commanding artillery attacks on Tuzla. The UN spokesman in Sarajevo said that Bosnian army troops were still blocking two UN tank trucks between Visoko and Ilijas, north of Sarajevo, denying them passage to the nearby Canadian Battalion base.
