ZAGREB, May 9 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament House of Representatives
on Thursday began a discussion on a Report on the Situation in
Croatian Agriculture. The opening speech was held by the
Agriculture and Forestry Minister, Matej Jankovic. #L#
Jankovic stressed problems in agriculture inherited from the
social system. He said that the first move was to change the
agrarian structure.
The state land of 205,000 hectares had to have an owner in
family business which usually gave good results in agricultural
production, Jankovic said.
He also spoke of the Act on agricultural land under which land
would be sold, rented and given to returnees and demobilized
persons, 50% of whom are farmers.
Jankovic announced a simpler and more direct procedure of
crediting in agriculture, he pointed out the importance of
agriculture for tourism and said that the government would make
efforts for a better protection of domestic agricultural
production.
The Committee for farming and the country held that the Report
insufficiently analyzed the causes of the situation on Croatian
agriculture and that it did not suggest appropriate solutions,
Vladimir Seks (HDZ) said.
Opposition representatives held that the Report did not give
concrete solutions and lacked facts.
