VUKOVAR, Nov 23 (Hina) - A workshop for local journalists in the
Croatian Danube river area is taking place in Osijek and Vukovar.
The European Union is the sponsor of the workshop which began in
early October and will end on 15 January when the UNTAES mandate
expires. This working seminar is viewed as a contribution to the
Croatian national programme for the trust establishment.
It has been organised by an independent news agency "AIM" (the
Alternative Information Network), and conducted by journalists of
the Split-based "Feral Tribune", the Osijek-based "Bumerang"
weeklies and of the Osijek City Radio.
The workshop is being attended by 17 young journalists of the
electronic and the press media from the Croatian Danube river area
who, the organisers have said, did not promote the Greater Serbian
ideology during the occupation of the region by the Serb rebels.
For the past years these journalists have worked in the conditions
marked by a total lack of freedom of the media. The goal of the
workshop is to teach them basic journalist techniques, help them to
work professionally and independently and enable them to be
included into the democratic media system of Croatia.
Croatian well-known journalists and media experts such as Jagoda
Vukusic, Stjepan Malovic, Igor Mandic, Vesna Alaburic, and Zeljko
Matic will hold lectures at the workshop.
