ZAGREB, 24 Oct (Hina)- The project of reconstruction of 71
apartments in central Vukovar 'Danube I' has been successfully
completed, special envoy of the European Commission in Croatia Per
Vinther said in a statement Friday.
The reconstruction of the building block for some 200 persons,
worth 2.4 million German marks, was financed by the European Union.
The project was completed by the German non-government association
'Arbeiter Samariter Bund', in cooperation with authorised Croatian
bodies.
An identical building block, 'Danube II', is being reconstructed,
Vinther said.
The reconstruction of the two building blocks started in June this
year.
The European Union has so far invested some 30 million marks into
the reconstruction of the Danube river region.
European commissioner Hans van den Broek, U.N. Temporary
Administrator William Walker and Croatia's Reconstruction and
Development Minister Jure Radic are to officially open 'Danube I'
and hand over the keys to the former residents of Vukovar on 28
October.
