GENEVA, Mar 21 (Hina) - A three-day meeting of ministers and
government officials of Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia, in charge of issues related to refugees and
displaced persons, ended in Geneva on Friday.
The final session of the meeting, organized by the UN high
commission for refugees, was also attended by representatives of
the countries which had welcomed the refugees and of several
specialized international organizations.
Croatian Ambassador in Geneva Darko Bekic outlined what
Croatia had done in relation to the return and permanent stay of
refugees and displaced persons from its territory. He added that
the Croatian Government was, together with UNTAES and the UN high
commission for refugees, preparing an integral package of measures
for the solving of this complex humanitarian, political and
economic issue.
According to Bekic, the Croatian Government in this respect
stressed the importance of respecting the principles of a
voluntary, gradual return, as well as the necessity of
international assistance in providing a permanent stay and other
conditions to facilitate the living and work of the refugees and
the displaced.
