The 36 Serbs fled to Yugoslavia during the liberation of the occupied
Croatian areas in summer 1995.
Their return was organised by the UNHCR within its project of
voluntary repatriation.
Since June 1996, 550 Croatian Serbs have returned to Croatia in 14
actions which are part of the repatriation project.
According to the repatriation procedure, Croatian Serbs receive entry
permits from the Croatian Government Office for Displaced People and
Refugees.
Most of the Serbs who returned to Croatia on Thursday will leave for
Karlovac, Knin and Vojnic, while some of them will stay in Zagreb, the UNHCR
spokeswoman said.
Some of the returnees are young people who returned to care for
elderly members of their families who remained in the liberated Croatian
areas and are dependent on social care.
