Kovacev stressed that the basic precondition for the Bank to start
work in the region was the introduction of Croatian currency which would
enable business banks to enter the area.
It had been stressed that it was necessary to, as soon as possible,
open offices of Croatian business banks in Vukovar and other places of the
Croatian Danubian area. The participants in the meeting had agreed that
UNTAES would try to organize meetings between the Croatian Reconstruction
and Development Bank's representatives with local entrepreneurs next week,
with the aim of providing more detailed information about the possibility of
developing small and middle-scale private entrepreneurship, as well as the
reconstruction of war damaged commercial buildings, the statement said.
