ZAGREB, 20 Feb (Hina) - The House of Counties on Thursday
unanimously supported bills on housing savings and on a fund for
long-term financing of housebuilding with state support, which were
proposed by representative Djuro Njavro. #L#
The bills are aimed at making housing loans more accessible
through state intervention, which would result in lower interest
rates and longer repayment periods.
Speaking about housing problems, Njavro presented estimates
according to which tenants in Zagreb have to pay more than 100 DM
per month for their rents.
Njavro proposed that part of the interest rate be subsidized
from the state budget so that loans could be acceptable both for
the user and the banks.
He also proposed the introduction of a new financial
institution and housing saving banks where each owner of a saving
account would be supported by 20% of annual premium.
Presenting their suggestions concerning the bills, the upper
house voiced their support, stressing the need for care for young
families.
