Bugarin said the parties had agreed that they would on Monday "work
out criteria and conditions about the heads of the lists and distribution
of candidates to every Osijek County self-government unit in the area under
UNTAES-administration".
Representatives of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Croatian
Social Liberal Party (HSLS), Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Croatian Party
of Rights (HSP), Social Democratic party (SDP), Slavonia-Baranja Croatian
Party (SBHS) and Croatian People's Party (HNS) stressed that the talks had
achieved progress, adding that some issues regarding an agreement which
would satisfy all partners should be defined at the meeting on Monday.
President of the Croatia Displaced Persons' Association, Mato Simic,
said that his candidature for elections for the Croatian Parliament House of
Counties would not affect elections for local self-governments and
governments in the Croatian Danubian area.ž
"My party, HDZ, estimated that I can enter the elections for the Upper
House and I accepted the candidature," Simic said, saying that his
candidature should not bother anyone, and that it could be positive for
returnees.
