PARLIAMENT DISCUSSES VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN ADMINISTRATION MINIS

Autor: ;VM;
MINIS $ TER ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - Opposition deputies in the lower house of the Croatian Parliament on Friday supported a proposal for a vote of no confidence in Administration Minister Davorin Mlakar. The ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) opposed the motion tabled by the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), Croatian Peasant Party (HSS), Croatian People's Party (HNS) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). "The Administration Minister should have enabled the implementation of the law but failed to do so in Zagreb, Rijeka and Omis, and that's why we demand his resignation," HSLS leader Vlado Gotovac said in explanation of the proposal. HDZ deputy Vladimir Seks proposed that the motion be rejected. "The Administration Minister's intensive work on the organization of elections, administrative arrangements, legislation on counties, municipalities and towns, and electoral units, is of such quality that he deserves full confidence and praise for his work," Seks said. Ivan Jakovcic of the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) said that several months ago his party had raised the issue of taking a vote of no confidence in Minister Mlakar after the suspension of articles of the Istrian County Statute. SDP leader Zdravko Tomac drew attention to "numerous violations of the Constitution and law" in Zagreb. Commenting on the cases of violation of the law, HSLS deputy Jozo Rados cited failure to call an election in Primorje County although it should have been done according to the law within a period of 60 days. Rados went on to say that Zagreb Mayor Marina Matulovic- Dropulic should have resigned 15 days after the vote of no confidence in her. (hina) vm mm 241447 MET jan 97
