STRASBOURG, Sept 23 (Hina) - The Council of Europe Parliamentary
Assembly on Wednesday awarded European diplomas to 28 cities,
including the Croatian city of Osijek, for achievements in
developing local self-government and civilian society and for
environmental protection.
Osijek Mayor Zlatko Kramaric received the diploma.
"Osijek, the largest Croatian city exposed to the Serbian
aggression, has shown a high degree of tolerance and protection of
human and minority rights", Kramaric told Hina.
Osijek has numerous projects and plans concerning environmental
protection, but it often lacks the funds necessary for their
implementation, he added.
Apart from Osijek, European diplomas were awarded to French,
German, Italian, Polish, Spanish, Romanian, Swiss and British
cities.
