OSCE MISSION HEAD IN BH VISITS HERZEGOVINA CANTON

( Editorial: --> 3338 ) MOSTAR, 13 Aug (Hina) - Robert Barry, head of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission in Bosnia- Herzegovina, on Wednesday visited Mostar, where he discussed the forthcoming elections with local officials and media representatives. Following his meeting with Herzegovina Canton Prefect Zeljko Obradovic and his deputy Fatima Leho, Barry confirmed that the Provisional Election Commission on Tuesday eliminated 200 candidates from election lists. The candidates were taken off the lists because they either had not been registered at all or had not been registered in the areas they had been put up for. The 200 eliminated candidates include some people from Herzegovina Canton, Barry added. Discussed at the meeting were also the rules and regulations of the Provisional Election Commission concerning the equal access of all political parties to local media. Barry positively assessed the current pre-election engagement of the local media with an exception of the latest case which happened at Croatian Radio Herzeg-Bosnia. The radio recently used inflammatory language in one of its programmes and a media subcommission decided that the radio should publish an apology, which it did, Barry said.
