Mesic was quoted by Croatian Radio as saying on Friday that as far as General Kruljac was concerned, the reports which Mesic regularly received from his military advisor, the then Army Chief of Staff General Josip Lucic, always portrayed Kruljac as an officer of high skills and perfect discipline and work.
Kruljac was arrested at the order of the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) on Friday morning, reportedly due to his involvement in unlawful sale and purchase of construction land. Police confirmed an investigation was under way but no details were revealed, as this is a case within USKOK's jurisdiction.
Kruljac was appointed land forces' commander by Mesic in 2007.
