"We can confirm that General Mladen Kruljac has been arrested and a crime investigation is under way," the ministry's spokeswoman Alleksandra Ljuba said this morning.
She declined to say the reasons for the general's apprehension, adding that the case file is within the remit of the USKOK.
According to information on web portals, Kruljac was captured in Osijek on suspicion of his involvement in murky dealings with construction plots.
