CAKOVEC TO HAVE COALITION GOVERNMENT

CAKOVEC, June 1 (Hina) - Leaders of municipal branches of the joint Social Democratic Party-Croatian Pensioners' Party (SDP/HSU) list and the Croatian Social Liberal Party, the Croatian Peasants' Party and the Medjimurje Party signed an agreement on post-election cooperation in the Medjimurje county capital of Cakovec on Friday evening. Under the agreement, Branko Salamon, head of the municipal SDP/HSU list, will be appointed Cakovec mayor. One deputy mayor each will be elected by the HSLS and the HSS whereas the HSLS will elect the president of the Town Council. It has been agreed that applications will be invited for the heads of all town departments and town secretaries. Persons belonging to the party whose member is a member of the town leadership in charge of a specific area will not be appointed to these offices. Tonight's agreement is considered a political compromise because the SDP was excluded from an agreement on the executive authority on the county level, to be exercised by the HSLS/HSS/HNS coalition.
