ZAGREB, May 22 (Hina) - The polling and the counting of votes at Croatia's Sunday local election were conducted in accordance with the law and in a peaceful and dignified atmosphere, the National Electoral Commission (DIP) said on
Tuesday. The Commission said the election would have to be repeated only at three out of a total of 6,430 polling stations. It announced incomplete official returns from the election for county assemblies and the Zagreb City Assembly and for the councils of county capitals. According to the results, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) scored the best results in relation to the seats it won in county assemblies. The HDZ finished as the first in 15 of 20 counties. The Social Democrats (SDP) were first-ranked in Zagreb and two other counties, the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) was the best in two counties and the Istrian Democratic Alliance (IDS) in one county.(hina) sb ms
