CONS.COURT: ELECTION MUST BE HELD AGAIN FOR GLINA TOWN COUNCIL

ZAGREB, May 26 (Hina) - The Croatian Constitutional Court has annulled the local elections in the town of Glina owing to one extra ballot found in a box at one polling station in this town (some 60 kilometres south of Zagreb). Under the Court's ruling, the polls for the town assembly should be repeated on 17 June. Sisak-Moslavina County's electoral commission did not annul the elections at that polling station when it was established that the extra ballot occurred as one voter voted for the bodies of the town assembly and of the county assembly, but his name was circled only on the roster of voters for the county assembly and not on roster for the town council. The commission regarded that there was no reason for revoking the polls because of only one extra ballot in such a case. However, the head of an independent slate which stood for the election of Glina's council, lodged the appeal with the Constitutional Court. The Court accepted the appeal filed by Petar Stajdohar, explaining that the election law explicitly stipulates the annulment of an election if there is extra ballots.
