At the cordial talks Minister Picula and the outgoing nuncio
considered the relations between Croatia and the Holy See in the
past eleven years.
Picula voiced satisfaction with the fact that the Vatican and Msgr.
Einaudi, as the dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Zagreb, had strongly
supported Croatia's bids to come closer to European institutions.
In this context the recent third pastoral visit of Pope John Paul II
to Croatia was mentioned as being of great importance for Croatia's
bids to join in European integration processes.
Msgr. Einaudi commended Croatia for its successful road towards
democracy, and recalled that during his latest visit to Croatia in
June the pontiff emphasised Croatia's niche in Europe, read the
