The two students and another two of their colleagues, one from
Kyrgyzstan and one from Oman, were attacked at the Cibona Tower in
downtown Zagreb on July 29. The police said they did not rule out the
possibility of "skinheads" beating up the Egyptian.
Expressing regret, Simonic strongly condemned the assault and
apologised to the students personally and on behalf of the Croatian
government.
The Croatian government and relevant ministries are taking all
possible preventive measures in its struggle against racial
intolerance, Simonic said.
The students thanked Simonic and the government for their concern
and help, stressing they considered the incident an isolated
event.
