According to a press release issued by the ministry, the
scholarships are funded by leading Croatian companies -- Ericcson
Nikola Tesla, Croatian Telekom (HT), Privredna Bank Zagreb (PBZ)
and Podravka -- and the British government. The 18 candidates, who
are law experts, economists, political scientists and translators,
will attend one-year post-graduate programmes at universities in
Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, and the Netherlands.
Their post-graduate training is part of the ministry's programmes
to facilitate the adjustment of all state sectors to European Union
standards.
The ministry has been providing scholarships for post-graduate
programmes abroad since 1998. After finishing their masters
programmes abroad, young experts are employed in the state
administration and their job is to help Croatia come closer to the
EU.
For the past five years, about a hundred young Croatian experts have
received scholarships for post-graduate programmes at 27 different
universities throughout Europe.
