Besides the request for the payment of overdue salaries for two
months, another demand of workers is the set-up of interim
management that will tackle the ongoing crisis in this ailing
company.
The strikers believe that the government should take over the
interest in the company, if the current owners of the shipyard fail
to comply with their commitments.
The entrance to the shipyard was closed at the start of the strike,
and the strike committee will consider whether it will allow some
sub-contractors to enter the premises and complete works on a ship
which is to be delivered tomorrow to a client. Other sub-
contractors were barred from entering the company.
The strike committee will hold a news conference later in the day.
The industrial action was organised by the Trade Union of Metal
Workers' branch in the shipyard and the union of the shipyard's
employees.
