KOSTRENA, July 23 (Hina) - Creditor banks will sign contracts on the
resumption of investments into the Viktor Lenac shipyard on 28
July, defining amounts and time terms for the implementation of
loans, the Croatian Metal Workers Union's (SMH) shop steward in the
shipyard, Damir Bacinovic, said on Wednesday after a one-hour
warning strike in this ailing company. #L#
Declining to disclose names of the sources of this unofficial
information, Bacinovic told reporters that the conclusion of
contracts would create conditions for the government to do its
share of job in the financial consolidation of the shipyard.
He described today's one-hour warning strike, held between 10 and
11 am, as successful given that all 675 workers who came to work this
morning went on strike.
The strike was staged after the management refused to pay 37 percent
of May's wages and half the amount of June's wages by 31 July.
Union members also insist on the liability of senior managers and
share-holders in the shipyard for the current situation.
SMH leader Ivo Marjanovic said the strike was not against the
government but was organised to show opposition to current director
Damir Vrhovnik and the majority owner and supervisory board
chairman Giancarlo Zacchelo.
According to Marjanovic, it is up to the owners of the company to
make a decision on the replacement of the current director.
If the management fails to pay the overdue salaries, the union will
organise a new strike on 1 August which will last until wages are
paid, the SMH chief added.
