PULA, June 18 (Hina) - The head of the Association of Anti-Fascists
of Istria County and the City of Pula, Miho Valic, on Tuesday sent a
letter to Croatian Sabor President Zlatko Tomcic and Social
Democratic Party and Istrian Democratic Assembly benches in
response to a statement made by MP Ivo Loncar. #L#
Loncar's statements about Josip Broz Tito, the hammer and sickle
and the red star offended and humiliated anti-fascists, says the
letter. #L#
Valic asked the Sabor president to prohibit such behaviour as it
"tarnishes the dignity of the Sabor".
"Behaviour such as this damages Croatia's image in the world, which
can only thwart the efforts of the incumbent authorities to see the
country join the European Union as soon as possible," the letter
said.
During Monday's parliamentary discussion on a proposal that the
Penal Code include a regulation on the punishment of acts
glorifying former fascist states and the spreading of racism and
Xenophobia, independent MP Ivo Loncar called the Communist Party
and its symbols criminal and Josip Broz Tito one of the greatest
criminals in the history of civilisation.
