I appreciate your people and the sacrifices you made for your freedom. I personally and the State of Luxembourg have the obligation to help your people, particularly in removing land mines and creating security in areas devastated by war, Juncker said.
The Luxembourg government has provided 500,000 euros for the demining of this and another field in Moscenica, which was situated on the line of separation between Croatian army and rebel Serb forces during the 1991-1995 war. Eight villagers have been killed by land mines left over from the war.
A memorial plaque was unveiled on the local government building in Moscenica, which was placed by the residents of the village as a sign of gratitude to Luxembourg for its assistance in mine clearance operations.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, local government officials and Croatian Mine Action Centre Director Oto Jungwirth.
