ZAGREB, Oct 28 (Hina) - President Stjepan Mesic and Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks separately received Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday.

During the meeting with Mesic, Juncker praised the progress Croatia had made over the past few years, and said that the start of negotiations with Croatia on its full membership in the European Union was one of the goals to be achieved during Luxembourg's EU presidency.

Luxembourg takes over the EU six-month rotating presidency at the beginning of 2005.

The talks stressed mutual satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations between Croatia and Luxembourg and the need to step up economic cooperation, the Office of the President said in a press release.

Seks informed his guest of the activities the Croatian Parliament was undertaking regarding admission to the EU, expressing his firm conviction that Croatia's membership in the EU would have a positive effect on the overall situation in Southeast Europe.

Juncker underlined that Croatia's admission to the EU should not be underestimated either in Croatia or in the EU, adding that Croatia was an example showing that European prospects could become a reality, the Parliament's Public Relations Office said in a press release.
